Ceal Potts, AMS®

Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors®

Boats are my special purpose, but it took a minute—20 years—to parley my passion into a career. I have a journalism degree: I'm programmed to investigate and cite my sources. Racing sailboats and cruising yachts to exotic places where repair resources were scarce was my practical education. My formal education came from Chapman School of Seamanship where I graduated as class co-valedictorian. Continuing my education keeps me up at night...I'm an avid reader of manuals, which bewilders my first mate.

How can I help?

An objective set of eyes and ears

Every type of survey I conduct begins with a physical inspection of the vessel. I look at everything through two lenses: safety of the personnel and safety of the property. I've been called picky. It's badge I'll wear proudly if it means a corroded hose clamp on a weeping thru-hull fitting doesn't pre-maturely end our days.

Open lines of communication throughout the entire process and the timely delivery of a professional, written report is my commitment to you.

Survey locations

My basecamp is Marathon, Florida. Over the years, I've traveled for clients far and wide. If the boat you're interested in isn't in the Florida Keys or even Florida. Call me. Let's talk. If the economics of the logistics don't pencil, I am happy to help you find the right surveyor closer to the boat.

FROM THE FLEET

Vincent,
Beneteau Oceanis 40

Ceal was completely accommodating, friendly, knowledgeable, thorough, and helpful. We proceeded to go through the boat, inch by inch, working side by side, digging into absolutely everything. I strongly recommend Ceal without reservation.

Judy and Kirk,
Leopard 46

We so appreciated the review and report that she did after we had done repairs; it was great to be able to send that to our insurance company and get the okay to sail!  We have recommended Ceal’s services to other sailors without hesitation.

Jennifer and Bob,
Island Packet 460

Ceal’s attention to detail in her survey reports helped us identify issues that we were not willing to accept in our dream boat and she frankly saved us a lot of money and future grief!
